Should you remove your bra for a massage?

Some clients remove a bra for easier back work, while others keep it on. Neither choice is a problem a professional should make awkward.

The practical answer

Removing a bra is optional

A bra can limit some back glides, but massage can be adjusted around it or performed over clothing. You do not need to choose before asking how the session works.

  • Keep it on if that feels better
  • Ask for over-clothing work
  • Choose a different area or method
02

Draping

Breasts should remain covered

In a standard professionally draped massage, only the area being worked is uncovered. Removing a bra does not give permission to expose or touch breast tissue.

  • Request more coverage
  • Clarify any chest-area work first
  • Local rules may add requirements

Words to use

Make the preference simple

Try: “I am keeping my bra on today. Please work around it,” or “I removed it, but I want my chest fully covered.” A professional response should be calm and immediate.

  • No apology is needed
  • A preference can change
  • Stop if the boundary is questioned
