01
Before leaving
Expect clear setup instructions
The therapist should show you where to place belongings, how to position yourself, which direction to face, and how to get under the drape. Ask them to repeat anything unclear.
- Confirm how they will knock
- Ask where to keep valuables
- Request a chair or extra time
02
Privacy
The room should be yours while you change
The therapist should leave and should not return until you indicate readiness. A locked or clearly controlled door and a place for clothes reduce uncertainty.
- Do not rush
- Keep any clothing you prefer
- Call out if you need help
03
Re-entry
You should already be covered
The therapist normally knocks or checks verbally before entering. If you are not ready, say so and take the time you need.
- Silence is not permission to enter
- Ask for another minute
- You may change the plan
