Can you get a massage during your period?

Menstruation alone does not automatically prevent massage, but comfort, symptoms, products, positioning, and health context may change the plan.

01

Comfort

Use the menstrual product and clothing you prefer

You can keep underwear on, request a restroom break, use extra draping, or choose a clothed session. The therapist does not need intimate details to respect the request.

  • Bring the products you use
  • Ask for a heating preference only if appropriate
  • Choose side-lying if comfortable
02

Symptoms

Change or postpone for how you feel

Cramping, migraine, heavy bleeding, dizziness, severe pain, fever, or other symptoms may affect whether massage sounds useful that day. Concerning symptoms deserve medical attention rather than being explained away.

  • Do not massage through severe symptoms
  • Ask about cancellation flexibility
  • Seek care for urgent concerns
03

Communication

A short explanation is enough

Try: “I am menstruating and want to keep my underwear on,” or “I need a position that reduces abdominal pressure.” A professional response should remain neutral.

  • Share only relevant information
  • Skip abdominal work
  • Stop if symptoms worsen
