Start with the state or district where you expect to practice, then verify the current regulator, minimum education, accepted exam, application steps, background checks, and local requirements.

- Save the date and URL with your notes
- Recheck before graduation and application

Step two
Confirm the program, not just the hour count
Meeting a numerical hour requirement does not automatically prove that a specific school or curriculum qualifies. Ask the regulator how program approval or recognition works.
- Get answers in writing when possible
- Check transfer and reciprocity rules separately
- Do not rely only on an admissions representative

Plan for maintenance, not only entry
A license or registration may require renewal, continuing education, fees, record retention, insurance, or other ongoing obligations.
- Create a renewal calendar
- Keep completion certificates
- Track scope and advertising rules
