Read the cancellation policy before you need it

Illness, weather, symptoms, childcare, travel, and changing health needs can make a rigid policy unexpectedly expensive.

01

Before booking

Confirm the notice window and charge

Ask whether the fee is fixed or the full session price, when the window begins, and whether rescheduling changes the outcome.

  • Note the time zone
  • Ask about same-day illness
  • Save the written policy
02

Health

A fee should not pressure you into an unsafe session

Ask how the practice handles fever, contagious illness, acute injury, new swelling, or a clinician’s instruction to postpone. Safety policies should be clear before a problem occurs.

  • Do not hide concerning symptoms
  • Ask about credits
  • Use the safety screen
03

Provider changes

Know what happens when the practice cancels

Clarify refunds, credits, therapist substitutions, late starts, and shortened sessions. You should be able to decline a substitute who does not meet an important preference.

  • Confirm refund timing
  • Restate therapist preferences
  • Document repeated problems
